Saturday: Y-day!
Inevitably, a day like this is dominated by travelling and its minor mishaps and annoyances. Elise drove me to Deventer after it turned out that railroad works scheduled for today made a direct connection from Hengelo impossible. With time to spare I even got on an earlier train than planned, which however missed its connection in Amersfoort so that in the end I'm typing this from the train I originally planned to take. Not a problem, I have about an hour to spare at Schiphol in any case.Goodbyes were relatively painless, if only because this first leg will last just 18 days: I'll be back for the visitation of the Computer Science curriculum, on 24-25 October, to play my part as chairman of the Examination Board. I got up early enough to play two rounds of Love Letter with Floris before he had to leave for his job at the Dondersteen (it's boring with two players, but a rather nice way to say goodbye for two people not given to deep relational conversations). As for Willem-Jan, I had to wake him up or I wouldn't have seen him before I left. Elise kissed me off at Deventer.
I'm feeling a bit odd right now. Back in the old days I would have taken out a book and gotten over it that way. Now there are many more ways to pass the time, and so I'm going back and forth between WordFeud, online bridge, and this blog. Of course I am planning to spend my time more productively than this once I am at my destination, but travelling is limbo time, so I am allowed to relax for now.
You could have read some ebooks on your mac, sorry laptoppcthingie. Gr. Ron
