There's the guy who got his P-diploma today! |
Friday, Y-day - 1
Another eventful day. A doctor's visit established that my shoulder pain is a case of chronic calcific tendonitis; Wilem-Jan received his Industrial Design Propedeuse (1st year) diploma today; and we went to watch Gravity, which indeed is a unique movie I can recommend to everyone who (like me) is skeptical about the added value of 3D projection. After Avatar and Life of Pi, this is the third movie about which I can say that the experience will be lessened in 2D.Of these three events, the picture to the right will tell you which is the more important one. The ceremony was well-organised, with 74 diplomas being handed out in slightly under one hour; a nice touch was showing a picture provided by the student during his or her (many hers!) signing session. The audience was appreciative and attentive thoughout.
In addition to this, I enjoyed my last spinning session for the foreseeable future (I really have to find something in York!) and essentially managed to pack everything I think I will need into two large, cumbersome suitcases, of the kind that were popular, say, 15-20 years ago: hard shell, wheels yes, balance no. Unfortunately the Dutch Railways has picked this weekend for some maintenance in Deventer, meaning a 40 min detour and 2x changing trains OR having Elise drop me off at Deventer itself. Not a hard decision...
