The secret society, York branch

Sunday, Y-day + 1

I'm very proud of myself: I did what I set out to do, which is to take a run through the surroundings of my new home for the next 4 months, to get to know the lay of the land. The weather couldn't have been better, sunny and brisk, no wind.

The millennium is some time ago by now
Of course 8:00 here isn't quite as early as on the continent, York being less than 8 degrees more westerly than Hengelo, or 2.22% of the circumference of the globe, which converts to 32 minutes of daylight; yet it is a full hour earlier, so the sun has been up for about half an hour longer than back home.

In any case, the secret society of early Sunday runners and dog owners was out in full force! It's a time of day when everyone who manages to be up and around still earns a hello.

When reentering the building I discovered the bicycle shed. Since the Halfords store next to yesterday eve's supermarket turns out to be open on Sundays, I'll go there straight away to see if they have a suitable 2nd hand bike. Today is a day for exploring if there ever was one.

This is what I would call a dream start.

  1. And, did they have a suitable 2nd- hand one?
And did you cook yourself a kind of supper? Els

  2. There's a nice 3 mi. run to the New Earswick Bowls Club to watch a Sunday game with tea and biscuits. Or the Sunday football match on the telly with a pint of lager! Gr. Ron
